Shark Project

Shark Egg Casings Collection Project

By Lucille Erwee

daviesOur Overberg Homeschoolers Eco-school group is part of a shark egg-casing collection project that is being run by the Whale Coast Conservation and Hermanus Shark Conservancy.

Every two weeks on a Friday, we collect shark egg casings on a specified part of the coast at Davie’s Pool in Onrus.

Once we have collected all the shark egg casings that we can find along the high water mark, we count and classify the shark eggs according to their species and the collected data is recorded for the researchers involved in the project.
